Different People Type Differently

Each individual has their own unique typing style. Some are more unique than others. This.. fingerprint can, if you're looking out for it, be a way to identify someone you suspect to be an alt account, for example.

SOMETIMES WE TYPE IN A SUPER EXCITED SORTA WAY!! :D

a lot of us tend to type in a very relaxed fashion, because lowercase is chill like that

some of us are kinda impatient if you can see what i mean ?? people who type like this are annoying

sometimes we typee super fsst and makr a lot fo typos

Some people type with good grammer and punctuation, all the time. I dareasay it can come across as a little cold, unless you're used to that particular person. I used to be like this when I was younger.

Some people use a lot of emojis, GIFs, stickers, or a mixture of them. And within that, there's a world of difference; some use a lot of anime GIFs, or cat stickers, or pepe the frog emojis..

Some people spell certain things in a certain way or have certain quirks to their grammar. Do you always greet people with a 'hallo' instead of a 'hello'? Maybe you say epik instead of epic sometimes?

Some people have other peculiar habits. I have this thing where I type out filenames in messages and I'm not really sure where I picked up this weird habit (I've never used 4chan). cirno-confusion.gif

Some people even type in all italics, always, forever, for some reason. I know of at least two people like this.

Some people consistently mix in certain words from other languages, especially their mother tongue if English is their second language.

Some people use a lot of em dashes --- or other similar characters, like ellipses...

Some people really like markdown!

We occasionally use tone indicators in an attempt to better convey emotions over text. /srs

Some of us have their own set of emoticons that they use (if any). If you use :), my Dutch friend uses (:. How wonderful O.O

Different people have different idioms and metaphors et cetera that they prefer to use.

We all tend to have a mixture of these habits, and more.

Different personalities

Admit it, you type differently with different people. It's super interesting, if you think about it. For example, the way you type in the Minecraft bros' group chat, versus the way you talk in WhatsApp DMs with your dad. It's different, right?

Now, maybe the difference isn't as big as that example when you're comparing the way you type between more similar situations, like the Minecraft bros' group chat and the programming bros' group chat. But there's still a difference.

If you don't believe me, just observe yourself for the next few days!

In one place, you are the dependable expert that everyone relies on. Dude, you missed a semicolon, that'll fix your issue. In another place, you're the guy who's always trolling people in the game server. Did you just spawn in 500 chickens in my house...?

This mimicks real life. We act differently around different people. It's a normal phenomenon, but it becomes fascinating seeing the differences over text.

Miscommunication

Communication over text leads to a lot of misunderstandings. That's normal.

We just have to be a little careful.. Especially if your humour is very deadpan (...guilty).

We also have to understand that emotion is not very easily conveyed over text. After all: we don't have tone of voice, nor expression of face.

When you hit send on that message that sounded playful in your head...

...maybe it comes off as aggressive to the recipient who lacks that mental context.

Or, when you receive a message that doesn't sound very nice... ...double check. Maybe they didn't mean it that way.

It's alright. It happens.

What we shouldn't do is take something the wrong way by misinterpreting it, and then, instead of addressing it, leaving the issue to fester in your mind... That's not good. That's cutting off communication. Don't do that.

One last thing

I'm not writing this because I got into a fight with anybody (regarding the above section specifically, I mean). Thankfully, most people aren't interested in fighting with me. I am writing this because different typing styles are super fascinating and very cool and I think more people should appreciate how cool they are.
